Newly Approved FDA Drug Prescribed To Treat Neovascular (Wet) Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
PHOENIX, AZ, January 19, 2012 – Apothecary Shop Wholesale, Inc. an affiliate of The Apothecary Shops Specialty Pharmacies, has received distribution rights from pharmaceutical manufacturer Regeneron for its new drug EYLEA™ (aflibercept) Injection, and
began to provide this new drug to physicians and patients this past November.
In late 2011, the EYLEA (aflibercept) Injection was approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which is a leading cause of blindness in older adults. Macular degeneration is diagnosed as either dry (non-vascular) or wet (vascular); the wet form usually leads to more serious vision loss. To best serve their ophthalmological patients, The Apothecary Shops has a dedicated ophthalmology sales and pharmacist team, PCAB Accreditation, and to serve ophthalmologists, they run a wholesale division for office ordering.
“With over 17 years of ophthalmology practice experience, The Apothecary Shops are among the finest specialty pharmacies in the nation, particularly with regards to ophthalmological medications,” said Jim Rehovsky, R. Ph, National Director, Ophthalmology for The Apothecary Shops. “And to better serve our customers who are prescribed the EYLEA™ Injection, we have the ability to work directly with the administering physician and the insurance provider to give our customers broader access options.”
