National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). This professional accreditation is awarded to pharmaceutical wholesale distributors that are in compliance with state and federal laws in preventing counterfeit drugs from entering the United States drug supply and protecting the public from drugs that have been contaminated, diverted, or counterfeited.

The NABP developed the VAWD Accreditation in response to the Food and Drug Administration's Counterfeit Drug Task Force findings and recommendation that NABP update its Model Rules for the Licensure of Wholesale Distributors, which were originally developed in 1987. As a result, the NABP created its VAWD Accreditation program, recognizing wholesale distributors that combat counterfeit drugs. VAWD identifies legitimate and legally operating wholesale distributors and verifies compliance with state and federal laws for wholesale distribution to ultimately help protect the public from the threat of counterfeit drugs, which could infiltrate the United States medication supply. Additionally, VAWD accreditation relieves wholesale distributors of the burden of seller-to-buyer due diligence as may be required by law.

To qualify for VAWD Accreditation status, Apothecary Shop Wholesale was required to meet stringent criteria regarding their licensure, facilities, personnel, records keeping practices, policies and procedures, and authentication and verification activities. Further qualification for this accreditation requires the safe handling policies and procedures for returned, damaged, and outdated drugs. “Our foremost concern is our practitioner and patient safety,” said Keith Cook, R.Ph., President “The VAWD Accreditation further validates our efforts to put patient safety first and protect our customers from the dangers associated with counterfeit drugs. Patient safety has always been, and will continue to be, our top priority.”
