John Musil is the visionary behind the success and growth of Avella Specialty Pharmacy (Avella), currently recognized as one of the state and the nation's fastest growing companies in any industry. Beginning with one pharmacy in Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1996, Musil has guided his company with a strategic vision. The company now proudly operates locations across the country, including a thriving national distribution facility, all while much more growth is planned for the next several years.

A graduate of the University of Arizona undergraduate (1990) and College of Pharmacy Doctorate (1994) programs, Musil continued his education at the world-renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), earning his Executive Leadership Certificate in 2005.

An active and respected leader in his field, Musil lists many association affiliations, including with the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the American Lung Association, the American Pharmaceutical Association, the Entrepreneur's Organization, and the International Association of Compounding Pharmacists. Musil has also served as a technical expert and site reviewer for the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board and has held a role on the Board of Directors of Scottsdale Health Care.

Musil has received numerous awards and distinctions throughout his career, including being named Pharmacist of the Year by the Arizona Pharmacy Association (2004) and Independent Pharmacist of the Year by the National Community Pharmacists Association (2003). Musil was further recognized for his business success as Avella's founder and CEO, being named to the influential "Forty Under 40" by the Phoenix Business Journal (2007) and Businessman of the Year by the National Republican Congressional Committee (2001).

Further, in September 2011, Musil was named CEO of the Year among private companies at the Arizona Corporate Excellence Awards, honoring Arizona's largest and fastest-growing private companies. The ninth annual awards, presented by The Business Journal, recognizes private companies and their CEOs based on growth of their business, innovative approaches, community involvement, dedication to company employees and leadership accomplishments.
